Full disclosure: I’m a massive, card-toting Bill Bryson fan. I lend his books around to almost everyone I know in the hope that they’ll catch the bug, and enjoy them as much as I do. I even made my parents come with me to see him live in conversation with Ray Martin. The Road to Little Dribbling is currently doing the rounds as I write this post.
A hilarious follow-up to his Notes from a Small Island, twenty years on, this new release sees the famed travel writer head back for another self-guided trip around the UK. At times though, you do wonder why he’s decided to revisit a place that seems to cause him such confusion and (sometimes) annoyance. If you’re looking for a little armchair travel that will simultaneously make you chortle and learn new things, then your very specific needs will be met in this account of holidaying in Britain.
